Day 4 - May 21, 2013...theme of the week: "light"

We have ginormous slugs and I am kind of fascinated with them. This was in my garage.  I don't have a macro lens, and my garage is very dark.  I realize the image is not in focus.  I was down on my garage floor propping my camera on it's hood. I only have one lens that will stop down low enough w/o jacking up the ISO for this low of a light situation and it's a 35mm prime that I just couldn't get to focus as close as I wanted to.  I had the door open behind/beside it for natural lighting.  I took  56 pictures of this guy (and two of his friends), and I just like how with the aperture wide open, and the shutter speed at it's slowest, shows the line across the image where the focal point is.

Day 3 - May 20, 2013...theme of the week: "light"

Contrary to how it might look, I rarely take pictures of llamas.  I just happen to have spent a lot of time w/my in-laws lately... This image is not cropped, and yes, it's centered. I can't seem to help it.

Day 2 - May 19, 2013

Still at the llama show.  Took around 400 images.  Sitting in that stands, let the people sitting around me choose which one I upload todayt.  I suppose there is much wrong with the composition of this snapshot, but this is the one that everyone responded to. I cold crop it down to just one of my kids so I don't have moment going in different directions, but I think it would lose the feeling of joyous abandon that I get when I see it.

Day 1- May 18, 2013

1/160 f4.8 105mm ISO800

I was at a llama show all day.  I took 209 photos inside a barn... this is the only one that tells any kind of a "story" other than the one of a proud parent trying to capture all of her kids and nieces and nephews action... mostly all in the same shot because the barn is way too dark for effective zoom.  She lost her competition and she was disappointed.  Not a poor sport.  Just disappointed.  Also, no wifi at the fairgrounds and I'm at a local restaurant trying to get this uploaded before they close and before the assignment is due!!!!

Thursday assignment, 3 more images...

So, in an attempt to challenge myself, I decided to use my f1.8 35mm prime lens.... outside. Which is something I never, ever do - it's not great for capturing action close-up from a distance, and my subjects are almost always outside and moving.

Trying to keep in mind the parameters of the assignment, I took 126 pictures in and around my yard of things I would not ordinarily ever take pictures of, including but not limited to: flowers & plants, my dogs, rocks, plants, trees, leaves, and some rusty stuff on my porch.  These are the three I liked best.  These are all full-frame, uncropped, lightly processed with Lightroom 4 but not otherwise manipulated.
